Self-Care Resources

Take Care of Yourself

It can be hard to find the time, energy or even motivation for self-care during a crisis, but it’s important that you take care of yourself first so you’re able to support your students.

Here are some self-care strategies sourced from experts in the field: 
 

• Take time each day to notice what you’re feeling and use an emotion-management strategy to find calm, mindfulness is your friend here (see below for activities to help with this).
• Check in on your self-talk and reframe the situation in positive ways as best you can.
• Identify and reach out to people who can provide you with support. Connect with them on a regular basis. 
• Stay Connected - try and find ways to connect with your friends, family, and colleagues. These connections will help you maintain your own social-emotional health.
• Limit information intake and stick to reliable, fact-based reporting. It is also ok to take a mindful break and set limits from taking in information.
• Move. However it best fits your needs, stretch, do a free youtube yoga video, learn a new dance, get the wiggles out, get outside and walk (responsibly) - this will improve your mood and get the kinks out from being sedentary.
• Change up your routine - try a new tea, attempt a new craft, listen to a new record, wear that shirt you’ve always wanted to, use that mug you’ve never tried. Changing things up prevents monotony and boredom.
• Occupy your brain - crosswords, e-books, scrabble, puzzles, games, knitting, podcasts, coloring, anything that keeps your mind focused on the task and away from worry, anxiety and boredom.
